A denture is a removable prosthesis that replaces your natural teeth and molars. There are several types of dentures, and we’re happy to discuss which type best suits your situation.

– Immediate Denture (Temporary Denture)
– Partial Denture (Acrylic or Metal Frame Denture)
– Full Denture (Complete Denture)
– Implant-Supported Denture (Snap-In Denture)

When you’re missing teeth and/or molars, a (partial) denture helps you chew properly again, which is important for good digestion. Additionally, a denture makes speaking easier and improves your appearance.

An immediate denture It serves as a temporary solution leading to a (regular) full denture or eventually a snap-in denture. First, any remaining molars are removed. After a healing period, the front teeth are extracted and the denture is placed immediately. When teeth and molars are removed, it takes several months for the jaw to fully heal and take its final shape. That’s why you first receive a temporary immediate denture.

A partial denture or framework  Can be a solution when you are partially missing teeth or molars and no other options are available. Additionally, the denture can help protect your remaining teeth and molars from wear and shifting.

A full denture Is a solution when all teeth and molars in your upper and/or lower jaw have been lost.

A snap-in denture (a denture on implants) Can be a solution if your jaw has shrunk to the point where it has become completely flat, making it difficult for your denture to stay in place. A snap-in denture fits securely, making it much easier to eat, laugh, and speak.

What steps does the treatment consist of?

Prosthesis (full or partial) – First, a scan of the upper and lower jaw is taken. In consultation with you, we determine the shape and color of the teeth and molars. Then, you try on a wax prototype of the denture. At this stage, adjustments can still be made. Finally, the permanent denture is placed.

What are the costs?

The cost of a denture depends on the type of denture being made, the materials used, the complexity of the treatment, the laboratory costs, and whether any preparatory treatments are required. We would be happy to provide you with an estimate.

The Dutch Healthcare Authority (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit) sets the rates for dental care, meaning that all dental practices must follow the same price list for all dental treatments (except for certain cosmetic treatments). Therefore, for the same treatment, you will pay the same amount, regardless of where the treatment is performed.

Is a prosthesis covered by insurance?

The reimbursement for a denture depends on your insurance and the type of denture that needs to be made. You can check with your health insurance provider to find out your coverage and how much your possible out-of-pocket contribution will be.
